Let me tell you why.

First I feel that sites that do this are doing a great disservice to the whole idea of reciprocal linking. These sites are primarily trading links for a better search engine ranking. WE TRADE FOR TRAFFIC and let the search engine rankings fall where they may, and you should too.

Think about it, there are only 10 slots on a page in the search results. So why try to compete for these 10 slots when all you need to do is trade traffic with other websites?

If everyone would make their link pages visible and easy to find we would all benefit. So look at it this way, when you hide your link to your link directory you are actually sending more traffic to the top 10 search engine listings because when a surfer leaves your site (and they all do) guess where they go? They go back to doing a search...and what sites do they see? They see the top 10 listings. If you make a clear and visible exit to your link pages this cycle could be broken and the little guys like you and me would benefit.
